Activities & Classes

The following activities and classes are offered for the enjoyment of Chickasaw residents and their families. We are offering a wide range of activities for all ages, which we hope will meet the recreational needs of the community.

Fees: Class fees are kept to a minimum. No refunds will be considered after the second meeting.

Registration: You may register for any activity at Charles E. McConnell Civic Center. To register by telephone please call 452-6462. Register early to ensure your place.

If you would like to see something special offered through the Recreation Department, please call Kathy Couey 452-6467.

Fun things to do when you’re Broke or just want Fun Time

Start or join a Club Get a few friends together for a monthly session of talking, learning and growing. A few possibilities: A book club, a money club, an exercise club or maybe a coupon club. The list goes on and on. Call Kathy 452-6467 for assistance.

Tax Preparation for Senior Adults and Low Income Families

The RSVP of Mobile County will prepare simple Tax returns for qualified persons/must not have income over $50,000. Please contact RSVP at 574-7787 to schedule appointment.

Must schedule appointments through RSVP. Do not call Civic Center to
schedule an appointment.

Service will begin February 7-April 10, location Civic Center.

Interested in GED Classes

Getting your Alabama General Education Development (GED) credential is an important move in securing a successful future or accomplishing a life long dream.

Please call Kathy at 452-6467 for details. We are working toward scheduling a class in Chickasaw and need your input.

Afterschool Fun
Beginners Sign Language Class for Children

Sign language class that makes learning a second language Fun! Children will learn signs quickly and easily through activities, story time and singing. There are many more benefits to signing with your child such as enhanced communication skills, reduced frustration, improved reading skills, and empowers any individual with special needs and may even boost IQ. Educators find children are more likely to be fascinated and curious about learning. Must call Civic Center to register 452-6462

Place: Chickasaw Community Shelter (New City Facility)

Chickasaw Garden Club

All interested in gardening topics, field trips and beautification of Chickasaw. Come and join the Garden Club. Members are needed. Meetings are held at the Chickasaw Civic Center. First Tuesday of month. (Jan-June) at 2pm.

If you need a warm place this cold winter to walk – try Mon-Wed-Friday mornings at the Civic Center 9:30-12noon (large room). Benefits you both physically and socially.

Shuffleboard Courts
All residents young and older interested in a game of Shuffleboard – Check it out at the Chickasaw Civic Center. Afternoons are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afterschool for a fun game of shuffleboard on our beautiful new courts. Equipment can be checked out for your use, just ask Civic Center attendant.

Chickasaw Karate Classes for Young and Older
Self defense and karate classes are taught on Tuesday and Thursday.

Ladies interested in the newest form of musical dance exercise. Fun for all of us needing to shed a few pounds and meet new friends.

Chickasaw Girls Softball Registration

Community Outdoor Fitness Trail
If interested in serving on a committee concerning funding an Outdoor Fitness Trail in Chickasaw please call Kathy at 452-6467.

Meals on Wheels
Home cooked meals for seniors and disabled in Chickasaw.
Cost $3.00

Senior Adult Bingo
Come join in on lots of laughter-Wednesdays at 12:00 noon

Chick-a-cisers
Fun fitness designed just for the senior adults on Monday and Wednesday.
Come exercise for the health of it!

The first Monday of each month the Recreation Department sponsors an early bird breakfast. A homemade breakfast with warm smiling faces.

Senior Game Day with Friends on Friday
Celebration of Monthly Birthdays

Play a fun game of cards, monopoly, scrabble or dominoes on 2nd Friday
of each month. Brain games such as these are essential to maintain
good brain health. The reason for this is that these games enhance
the concentration, memory and reasoning skills.
Monthly Birthdays will be celebrated with Cake and Ice cream.
